Phew..... the last guitar - and it's
something special. Tony only uses this guitar for special occasions - it's a
collectors piece. The guitar is a Gibson Les Paul "Tie Dye" guitar. At
this point most people have no idea what we are talking about so here's some
background .......
The Gibson Les Paul Tie Dye guitar was
conceived by a man named George St. Piere. Now George was a wizard at Tie Dye -
you know - like on clothing etc. The story goes like this.... George was a
luthier at Gibson and like many luthier's at Gibson was paid a fairly sizable
salary. George owned a factory ( as a sideline! ) that made tee shirts and
George mastered the art of Tie Dyeing cloth... are you with us so far?..
OK so George had this idea of covering a Les Paul with Tie Dye cloth and
proceeded over around four years to master the technique.
After this time George went to the board
of Gibson with a sample and was authorized to make only 100 Tie Dye Les Paul
guitars. Now, if you think about this, every guitar was unique because you
cannot Tie Dye two pieces of cloth exactly the same... in fact George made
EVERY GUITAR DIFFERENT!
This guitar is number 14 from 100 and was
made in late 1995. Tony paid .... let's just say a lot of bucks for this piece
of kit and he doesn't regret it either - let's face it - this guitar will
only go up in value.
The guitar is based on a Les Paul
Standard but with this amazing finish - we've seen one other - also owned by
Tony McKenzie - a fawn color shown on the tie dye pages on this web and
exclusive (along with this one) to this site.
The guitar shown here along with the
other one is not played at this time but is kept for investment purposes.
P.S someone recently emailed us and said
that the finish was not cloth - but if you really examine the guitar under an
eyeglass you can see that the cloth used is like a VERY fine mesh - it really is
thin, almost like curtain but thinner. Thanks to the guy who emailed us - we
appreciate all comments.....
Here are the new Picture's
