Engl E670 Amp

This is a picture of the New Engl E670 Special Edition amp - there's another one at the bottom of the page.

I am so impressed with this amp that I am currently developing a complete site around this product. I have been a Mesa Boogie and Marshall fan for many years, and can confirm that in my view Mesa and Marshall often are at the top of the list worldwide.

The Engl, on the other hand - well, firstly you have to decide why this amp is on my site?

  • It's not because everyone has one

  • It's not because all the top players in the world have one (which they don't)

  • It's not because the E670 is cheap (which it is not)

  • It's not because I like black red and chrome

  • It's not because it's easy to figure out

  • It's not because it sounds like other amps

  • It's not because it's of German origin (although they make some great cars)

  • It's not because the Boss GT-8 can't switch channels on it (the Boss was rubbish)

  • It's not because it's an all round amp (which it is not)

  • Well - you get the picture.....

IT'S BECAUSE OF THE SOUND!

This amp, although you have never heard one (most likely) is right at the top of the tree.

It's a funny thing about the Germans really - they are extremely good at what they do, check out the build quality on all the top automobiles from Germany - it's awesome.

Same thing applies to this amp - the build quality is second to none.

Another thing Germans like - is ROCK music, simple down and out great heavy rock and this amp is designed to kick the ass of most other amps - including Mesa - and Marshall does not even see a look in.....

Here's a run down of the specification, and by the way to avoid confusion, the track playing on the home page (No Logic) is recorded front to back on this amp!

This is a very high end amp featuring Tubes and Midi:

  • Four SELECTED 6L6GC tubes (or you can install EL34 if you must)

  • Easy re-biasing on board change the tube type in 10 minutes

  • There are 5 Preamp tubes 12AX7/ECC83 types

This amp utilizes TWO sound modes for all FOUR channels - Modern & Classic:

  • Great TONE for many styles (but I still think rock here)

  • TWO sounds X four channels equals eight superb sounds

There's a TWO section EQ with Bass, Middle & Treble:

  • For main channel 1, Clean & Crunch

  • For main channel 2, Lead I & Lead II

  • BOTH voicing sections feature completely separate treble knobs for each
of the four sub-channels to be shaped and fine tuned with precision

FOUR Voicing Buttons: Bright, Ultra Bright, Contour & Mid Edge:

  • Normal Bright and Ultra Bright on the clean &
crunch channels elicit chiming, bell like top end

  • Contour & Mid Edge on the Lead I & Lead II channels
shape crucial mid range frequencies to create commanding lead tones

  • The Voicing buttons offer an amazing range of options
    for shaping basic lead sounds

FOUR basic channels (sub channels): Clean, Crunch, Lead I & Lead II:

  • The two lead channels are fully configurable, affording tremendous
flexibility in shaping lead sounds to suit every player, situation &
style, satisfying the most diverse tonal requirements of guitarists -
(But I would still say ROCK, METAL etc)

  • Each of the FOUR channels sports a dedicated volume knob, making it
easy to adjust the relative levels

Built in Spring Reverb:

  • The two main channels intensities' can be adjusted individually,
and reverb may be activated separately - it's an accutronics
    unit installed internally

  • Offering amazing natural sound the effect ADDS warmth and
    depth to every signal

FOUR Gain knobs & TWO Gain Buttons:

  • Each of the sub channels Gain is independently variable

  • This makes it easy to fine-tune input sensitivity and control
the amount of distortion in the crunch and lead channels

  • Gail Boost and Lo/Hi Gain extend the four channels gain
    spectrums

Tube Driver Circuitry Featuring separate EQ:

  • A separate tube driver stage which is crowbarred on to the amp
enhances dynamic response and offers added sound-sculpting
options. Equipped with a separate EQ with bypass and a sensetivity
knob, the Tube Driver can serve as a tube preamp for inserted effects
or as an auxiliary clean channel

The above is the basic specification, and you can see that it is actually no slouch when it comes to what you can potentially do with am amplifier of this calibre - I will be extending a review from front to back of this amp on the new site I am developing, and as soon as it's ready (a couple of months probably by January 06) then you should definitely visit that site.

Don't underestimate what you are looking at in this great amp.

I can tell you that many top bands use these things and have done for years - visit www.engl-amps.de for more of a lowdown and come back here when this new site is ready to unleash this amp on you.

Be careful, you just might decide that what you currently use is not quite up to this - and it could well cost you some big bucks - Typical European price is nigh on US$4000.00 or 4000.00 Euro's if you prefer, or £2800.00 if you live where we all get screwed by the government.
